Do you homeschool your children? Every educator knows that students are more receptive to learn about a new state when they have a personal relationship associated with it. (For example, did y0u ever notice how your children will light up when you talk about a state where a relative lives?) Warm them up to the state you're studying by reading a few diary entries aloud to "break the ice" and fire up some interesting discussions.
